Ordination Centenary Celebration – Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary
August 22 @ 5:15 pm
On Easter Sunday 1924, the liturgical life of the National Shrine began with the celebration of the first Mass in the Crypt Church. Three months later, in June 1924, the first ordinations were conferred at the National Shrine. Since that date, more than 800,000 Masses have been celebrated along with nearly seven thousand ordinations.
As part of our continuing celebration of One Hundred Years of Worship at the National Shrine, on Thursday, August 22, 2024, the Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, His Eminence, Wilton Cardinal Gregory, Archbishop of Washington and Chair of the National Shrine Board of Trustees, will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving, at 5:15 p.m. in the Crypt Church. On this Marian feast day, at this noble shrine, in honor of our national patroness, all priests who received orders (tonsure to priesthood and bishop) at the National Shrine and all those who wish to celebrate their priestly ministry as part of this holy centenary are invited to concelebrate.
Note: This Mass will be livestreamed on nationalshrine.org/mass.
