Special Plenary Indulgence

On this day in 1990, Pope John Paul II granted to this National Shrine the title of Minor Basilica. On the Anniversary of the Granting of the Title Basilica, a plenary indulgence may be obtained. The faithful who are able to devoutly visit the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on this day and who, while within this Church, participate in any sacred rite or at least recite the Lord’s Prayer and the Profession of Faith, may obtain a plenary indulgence under the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion, and offer a prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father). (Domus Ecclesiae, 9 November, 1989).
