Liturgy

Encounter Christ through Word, Sacrament, Devotion, and His Mother

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is the nation’s preeminent Marian Shrine, dedicated to the patroness of the United States—the Blessed Virgin Mary under her title of the Immaculate Conception.

“At shrines, the means of salvation are to be supplied more abundantly to the faithful by diligent proclamation of the Word of God, the suitable promotion of liturgical life especially through the celebration of the Eucharist and Penance, and the cultivation of popular forms of piety.” (Canon 1234 §1 CIC)

Fulfilling this mission, Mary’s Shrine offers four Masses and five hours of Confession daily as well as Adoration and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament, the daily Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary, weekly and seasonal Novenas, the Stations of the Cross, and more.

As a place of worship, pilgrimage, evangelization and reconciliation, this National Shrine offers the occasion for one’s deepening conversion, a step forward in the journey to God, with Mary as a model for that journey.  It is here at Mary’s Shrine that pilgrims and visitors may encounter Christ through the Word, the Sacraments, popular Devotions, and His Blessed Mother.
