2022 Summer Organ Recital Series – Paul Hardy

July 31, 2022 @ 6:00 pm

Join the Basilica for the fifth performance in our 2022 Summer Organ Recital Series on July 31 at 6:00 PM in the Great Upper Church. Paul Hardy of the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington, D.C. will perform.

Paul Hardy

Paul Hardy studied organ with Dr. Robert Grogan and has been the Principal Organist of the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle since 2000. While serving as organist at the cathedral, he provided organ music for the funeral mass of the Chief Justice of the United States, William Rehnquist, as well as for National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, Senator Paul Laxalt and journalist Cokie Roberts. He was honored to accompany the Papal midday prayer at the Cathedral on the occasion of Pope Francis’s September 2015 visit to Washington. Paul was recently privileged to be organist at the early morning Inauguration Day Mass for President-Elect Joseph Biden and Vice-President-Elect Kamala Harris. At that same Mass, Paul had the honor of accompanying the esteemed award-winning soprano and world-renowned opera star, Renée Fleming.

Paul is a frequent recitalist on both piano and organ. He coordinates the music for the many weddings at the Cathedral and assists the musicians at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception as organist and carillonneur. He also serves as a database and ETL developer at American University in the Office of Information Technology.
