The Psalms are filled with a vivid spectrum of emotions – grief, anger, confusion, joy. There are declarations of God’s attributes, songs of praise, and passages of deep anguish and frustration. But throughout the Psalms, one theme which is visited again and again is that of thanksgiving.
For Christians, gratitude isn’t optional – it’s foundational to our relationship with God. As we prepare our hearts for Thanksgiving this week, we invite you to reflect on these 10 psalms thanking God for His goodness.
Give Thanks to God for His Mercy
“You changed my mourning into dancing;
you took off my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness.
So that my glory may praise you
and not be silent.
O Lord, my God,
forever will I give you thanks.” — Psalm 30:12-13
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
his mercy endures forever…
Let those who fear the Lord say,
his mercy endures forever…
I thank you for you answered me;
you have been my savior…
This is the day the Lord has made;
let us rejoice in it and be glad.” — Psalm 118:1, 4, 21, 24

Give Thanks to God in Song
“It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praise to your name, Most High,
To proclaim your love at daybreak,
your faithfulness in the night,
With the ten-stringed harp,
with melody upon the lyre.
For you make me jubilant, Lord, by your deeds;
at the works of your hands I shout for joy.” — Psalm 92:2-5
“Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;
with the lyre make music to our God,
Who covers the heavens with clouds,
provides rain for the earth,
makes grass sprout on the mountains,
Who gives animals their food
and young ravens what they cry for.
He takes no delight in the strength of horses,
no pleasure in the runner’s stride.
Rather the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,
those who put their hope in his mercy.”
— Psalm 147:7-11
“I will praise the name of God with a song;
I will magnify him with thanksgiving.”
— Psalm 69:30
Glorify God Through Thanks
“We thank you, God, we give thanks;
we call upon your name,
we declare your wonderful deeds.” — Psalm 75:2
“I will thank the Lord in accordance with his justice;
I will sing the name of the Lord Most High.” — Psalm 7:18
“Teach me your way, O Lord,
that I may walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart to revere your name.
I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,
and I will glorify your name forever.” — Psalm 86:11-12
Give Thanks to Our God Who is Good
“O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever.” — Psalm 136:1
“Know that the Lord is God,
he made us, we belong to him,
we are his people, the flock he shepherds.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him, bless his name;
good indeed is the Lord,
His mercy endures forever,
his faithfulness lasts through every generation.”
— Psalm 100:3-5
