10 Verses for Courage

Mary's Garden treesWhether you’re struggling with a difficult job, a strained relationship, or even a bad day, life’s challenges can often feel overwhelming. But while God does not promise us an easy life, He does promise that He will give us the strength to endure whatever trials come our way. No matter what challenges we face, we can rest in the knowledge that “nothing will be impossible for God,” (Luke 1:37).

In today’s post, we invite you to reflect on 10 verses for courage and find strength in the promises of Scripture.

No Fear in the Lord

“The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?” – Psalm 27:1

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; be not frightened, neither be dismayed; for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9

“[F]ear not, for I am with you,
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10

Peace and Comfort in the Lord

“Out of my distress I called on the Lord;
the Lord answered me and set me free.
With the Lord on my side I do not fear.
What can man do to me?” – Psalm 118:5-6

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” – John 14:27

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me.” – Psalm 23:4

The Lord is Sovereign

“Finally, draw your strength from the Lord and from his mighty power. Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil. For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens. Therefore, put on the armor of God, that you may be able to resist on the evil day and, having done everything, to hold your ground. So stand fast with your loins girded in truth, clothed with righteousness as a breastplate, and your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace. In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield, to quench all [the] flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” – Ephesians 6:10-17

“But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, Jacob, and formed you, Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name: you are mine. When you pass through waters, I will be with you; through rivers, you shall not be swept away. When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, nor will flames consume you. For I, the Lord, am your God, the Holy One of Israel, your savior.” – Isaiah 43:1-3a

“For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control.” – 2 Timothy 1:7

“I have said this to you so that in me you may have peace. In the world you face persecution, but take courage: I have conquered the world!”
– John 16:33
