Amidst a world plagued by uncertainties, it can be easy to lose heart. Maybe you or someone you know faces risks in the workplace, their relationships, or environment, and the situation feels overwhelming. Or maybe your battles are spiritual. But as Christians, we can rest in the knowledge that our God is greater than any threat that arises.
Whatever you’re facing, we invite you to take heart from these 10 verses about God’s protection, reminding us that our God will never abandon us.
The Lord Is Our Refuge

“You who live in the shelter of the Most High,
who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,
will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress;
my God, in whom I trust.’
For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence;
he will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
You will not fear the terror of the night,
or the arrow that flies by day,
or the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
or the destruction that wastes at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
You will only look with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
Because you have made the Lord your refuge,
the Most High your dwelling place,
no evil shall befall you,
no scourge come near your tent.

For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.” — Psalm 91:1-11
“The Lord is slow to anger, yet great in power;
the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished.
In stormwind and tempest he comes,
and clouds are the dust at his feet…
The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
a refuge on the day of distress,
Taking care of those who look to him for protection…”
— Nahum 1:3,7
The Lord Keeps His Promises
“And there was the Lord standing beside him and saying: ‘I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you are lying I will give to you and your descendants. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and through them you will spread to the west and the east, to the north and the south. In you and your descendants all the families of the earth will find blessing. I am with you and will protect you wherever you go, and bring you back to this land. I will never leave you until I have done what I promised you.’”
— Genesis 28:13-17

We Can Have Joy in His Protection
“Then all who trust in you will be glad
and forever shout for joy.
You will protect them and those will rejoice in you
who love your name.
For you, Lord, bless the just one;
you surround him with favor like a shield.”
— Psalm 5:12-13
The Lord Is Just
“Lord, your mercy reaches to heaven;
your fidelity, to the clouds.
Your justice is like the highest mountains;
your judgments, like the mighty deep;
human being and beast you sustain, Lord.
How precious is your mercy, O God!
The children of Adam take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the rich food of your house;
from your delightful stream you give them drink.
For with you is the fountain of life,
and in your light we see light.

Show mercy on those who know you,
your just defense to the upright of heart.
Do not let the foot of the proud overtake me,
nor the hand of the wicked disturb me.
There make the evildoers fall;
thrust them down, unable to rise.”
— Psalm 36:6-13
“Show your wonderful mercy,
you who deliver with your right arm
those who seek refuge from their foes.
Keep me as the apple of your eye;
hide me in the shadow of your wings
from the wicked who despoil me.” — Psalm 17:7-9
The Lord Hears Our Cries
“For God will hide me in his shelter
in time of trouble,
He will conceal me in the cover of his tent;
and set me high upon a rock.
Even now my head is held high
above my enemies on every side!
I will offer in his tent
sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing and chant praise to the Lord.

Hear my voice, Lord, when I call;
have mercy on me and answer me.
‘Come,’ says my heart, ‘seek his face’;
your face, Lord, do I seek!
Do not hide your face from me;
do not repel your servant in anger.
You are my salvation; do not cast me off;
do not forsake me, God my savior!
Even if my father and mother forsake me,
the Lord will take me in.” — Psalm 27:5-10
The Lord Guards Us From Evil
“He will not allow your foot to slip;
or your guardian to sleep.
Behold, the guardian of Israel
never slumbers nor sleeps.
The Lord is your guardian;
the Lord is your shade
at your right hand.
By day the sun will not strike you,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord will guard you from all evil;
he will guard your soul.
The Lord will guard your coming and going
both now and forever.” — Psalm 121:3-8

“But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you
and guard you from the evil one.” — 2 Thessalonians 3:3
“The Lord is on high, but cares for the lowly
and knows the proud from afar.
Though I walk in the midst of dangers,
you guard my life when my enemies rage.
You stretch out your hand;
your right hand saves me.
The Lord is with me to the end.
Lord, your mercy endures forever.
Never forsake the work of your hands!” — Psalm 138:6-8
