Due to inclement weather, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception will open to the public at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 25, and Monday, January 26, and operate on a modified schedule.
Sunday, January 25:
Masses will be celebrated on Sunday at 12 Noon and 4:30 p.m. in the Crypt Church. The Vigil Mass on Saturday, January 24 at 4:30 p.m. will be celebrated as scheduled.
There will be no livestream broadcast of the 12 Noon Mass. Viewers are encouraged to watch our pre-recorded Sunday Mass for the 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time, which will be available on our Mass page.
In addition, Cardinal Robert McElroy, the Archbishop of Washington, issued a decree “that, in this extraordinary circumstance, all subjects of the Archbishop of Washington, no matter where they may be, and all other Roman Catholics actually present in the Archdiocese, are dispensed from the Sunday Mass obligation on these days (cf. cann. 87 §1; 91; 1247).”
Confessions will not be heard on Sunday. The gift shop and bookstore will be closed.
Monday, January 26:
On Monday, January 26, the Basilica will open to the public at 11:00 a.m. There will be no morning Masses or Confessions. The first Mass will be celebrated at 12:10 p.m.
